FAQ’s

What do I consider for a birthday Cake?

It is a good idea if you know the birthday recipient. If you don’t, get a close friend or relative to help you with ideas. You may want to consider their hobbies, job, sporting prowess as well as the type of personality they have. If there is to be a theme for the party then the cake should be in keeping with the theme. If there is no theme perhaps a reflection of the person and their friends and family would be ideal. If you have already sent out invitations or the like these would be good for a reference to the style the cake should follow.

If you are still unsure then bring along photos, cards, keepsakes that reflect the person and we can go through the process together, to plan that special cake.

What about that Wedding Cake?

A wedding cake is an “Original” created especially for you, one that reflects the style of your wedding and the uniqueness of your coming together. Just like a couture designer’s vision for the perfect outfit. Thus it is advisable to leave the cake until the attire and decore of your wedding has been determined. When you have decided on the style and ambience of your wedding, bring us a photograph of your dress, a swatch of any other fabrics you intend to use, and a few photographs of the site where the wedding reception will take place. It is very important that your cake suits the venue you have chosen. A small delicate cake would be dwarfed in a large room and vice a versa. Let us know whether it will be a black-tie or casual affair and whether it will be held in the day-time or evening, and so on.

Perhaps a combination, such as square base with round. When it comes to personalizing your cake the possibilities are almost endless. From taking the pattern of a table cloth or invitation and using the same pattern in icing all over the cake, to focusing on a particular flower used in the bouquet and applying it in decorative elements of the cake such as the sugar flowers. Colour too is all important – think about how many shades of green there are! So if you cannot provide fabric swatches we will provide you with a PMS colour chart to choose the colours you want.
